The Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Muktar, says the Federal Government is ready to strengthen its collaboration with the Ekiti State Government to expand agricultural value chains, boost production and sustain the state’s achievements in food security.

Alhaji Muktar commended the state government’s commitment to leveraging agriculture to tackle poverty and unemployment, as well as create wealth and economic opportunities for residents.

He lauded the state’s investments in Ikun Dairy Farm, the construction of a modern abattoir, the Ekiti Broilers Scheme at Erifun, and initiatives aimed at bringing more women and young people into agriculture.

He also acknowledged the state’s support for the World Bank assisted Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project, L-PRES, describing the initiatives as significant contributions to agricultural development.

The Minister assured the state of continued Federal Government support, noting that stronger collaboration between both tiers of government would enhance agricultural productivity, strengthen livestock development and improve food security.

Responding, Governor Oyebanji commended President Bola Tinubu for establishing the Ministry of Livestock Development, describing it as a demonstration of the President’s commitment to addressing challenges in the livestock sector and strengthening national food security.

He also highlighted his administration’s interventions in agriculture, including the clearing of 5,500 hectares of farmland and the provision of subsidised agricultural inputs, capital and equipment to farmers.

The Governor said these interventions, alongside other agricultural initiatives, had contributed to reducing food inflation in the state.
