The Association of Professional Secretarial Staff of Nigeria (APSSON) Bamidele Olumilua University of Education Science and Technology Ikere Ekiti Branch has been inaugurated.
This is one of the continuos efforts of the Management and staff of the University to be on the same page with existing University across the nation following the upgrading of the then College of Education Ikere Ekiti to a University on October 16th, 2020 by the Visitor to the institution and governor of the State, Dr Kayode Fayemi.
The National President of the Association, Alhaji Nasiru Yaro, represented by National Treasurer and South West Development and Monitoring Officer, Mrs Yemisi Niyi-Kolawole who conducted the swearing-in of the BOUESTI branch executive commended the Management and members of the Secretarial staff for the right decision of joining the league of secretarial professionals, united by a common goal of ensuring best practices in their duties as office and resources managers
According to him
“the uniqueness and value of secretarial Professional lies in the maintenance of confidence of the organisation by ensuring that information about the goings –on in the organisation are never discussed with outsider to the organization.”
He explained that APSSON was established in 1992 and duly registered as a professional body under the Corporate Affairs Commission Act 1990 and has been properly gazette by the Federal Government of Nigeria.
He said
“a window of opportunity is created for members in this institution to interact with their colleagues from other parts of the country where they exchange information and ideas on better ways of doing things and have a better understanding of their job and develop positive attitudes that will lead to improved productivity”.
He charged members to distinguish themselves as a noble and most organised professional body urging them to embrace the culture of excellence and adhere strictly to the professional codes of ethics which includes confidentiality, honesty, loyalty, reliability, responsibility, cooperativeness, flexibility and multi-skilling.
The newly inaugurated branch Executive Members are Mrs. Stella Monisola Faniyi, President, Loveth Ayodeji Owoseni, Vice President, Israel Femi Olajiga, Secretary and Oluwanifemi Egunjobi, Treasurer. Others are Mercy Tinuola Akinloye, Financial Secretary, Abigail Olutoyin Afolabi, Public Relations Officer and Mojirayo Yetunde Olatunde Assistant Secretary.

The Branch President, Mrs Stella Faniyi, in her acceptance speech, said the move to have the association inaugurated in BOUESTI was as a results of members quest to break the barriers of stagnation and toe the path of professional development and relevance in order to enhance productivity and upward mobility in their chosen career urging them shun acts that are inimical to good conduct saying the association is non-political and not a trade union with a call on members to be more determined ,resolute and focused in making the association the envy of all.
In his good will message, the Vice Chancellor of the Institution, Professor Olufemi Adeoluwa represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Dr Ibitola Makinde congratulated members of APSSON for having the association domesticated in the institution with a promise to give members adequate support in the area of training and retraining, sponsorship to workshop and conferences stressing that they stand to benefit what other associations and cadre of staff of the university are benefitting from.
He said
”to whom much is given, much is expected. As a professional secretary, you must embrace culture of excellent and always keep in touch with the continuously –evolving information and Communication Technologies”
There were also good will messages from the leadership of APSSON from sister institutions from within and outside Ekiti State.
Highlights of the event was the presentation of certificates of registration and the Code of Ethics booklet of the Association to the branch President and certificate of membership to other registered members with a call on them strive to be adequately upgraded to the status of fellow within the shortest period.
