The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye has charged Nigeria youths to get their voices amplified and ensure they inject immense contributions to give the country improved legislative framework.

He stated this at the students legislative summit focusing on roles of quality legislation in nation building organized by the Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Oyo State.

Aribasoye said,
” Your voices, perspectives, and insights are invaluable in shaping the legislative landscape of our great nation. Together, let us harness the potential of legislation to build a society that is inclusive, progressive, and just for all.”

He analysed how effective legislation could engender meaningful transformation in the society adding that when efforts are collectively harnessed, laws that meet the yearnings of the masses would be developed.

“As someone who has traversed the corridors of student leadership and now stands as the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly and Chairman of the Southwest Conference of Speakers, I understand the transformative power that effective legislation wields. It is through our collective efforts, dedication, and vision that we can craft laws that resonate with the aspirations and needs of our people.” Aribasoye noted.

The Ekiti Speaker, who represents Ikole Constituency two in the Ekiti assembly
explained that just societies rest on the best of legislation urging the youthful generation to trigger intellectual revolution for a much needed transformation.

“Legislation serves as the bedrock upon which the pillars of a just and equitable society are erected. It is through thoughtful, inclusive, and forward-thinking laws that we can pave the way for a brighter future for all citizens.” Aribasoye affirmed.

In the same tone, Nigerian students have been advised to keep tabs on leaders in government and monitor governance with a view to ensuring accountability by those holding power in trust for the populace.

Former Governor of Ekiti State , Dr. Kayode Fayemi who stated this in his address presented at the forum charged the youth to take charge and bear responsibilities that reflect maturity, confidence and competence.

Fayemi who was represented by the Majority Leader of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon. Tolu Ige
said the major roles expected of the contemporary youth to aid improved legislative governance include agitation for more inclusion in legislative bodies, productive engagement with lawmakers, pursuit of deeper learning on legislative affairs and active participation in student union activities among other points.

He highlighted that keeping keen eyes on government activities would help ensure transparency in legislative governance.

“we can monitor the performance of elected officials, track legislative activities, and hold policymakers accountable for their actions. Through transparency and accountability mechanisms, we can help ensure that legislative decisions are made in the public interest”

Fayemi encouraged the students to build stronger ties with policy makers and maximize avenues to ventilate their minds.

He said “building relationships with local lawmakers and policymakers allows us to express our concerns, provide input on proposed legislation, and advocate for youth-friendly policies.”

The former Nigeria Governor’s Forum Chairman advised the youth to seek more knowledge about parliamentary processes and activities adding that legislative governance is most desirable in Nigeria if well fine tuned.

The summit played host to students across various institutions, Minister of State for youth development, Speaker of Osun State, representatives of the Ondo and Lagos state speakers, other top politicians and those from the academia among others.
