How Covid 19 Pandemic Boosted My economy, Discovered my Potentials

Mrs Pamilerin Owoeye is one of the rising Stars in the Media industry in Ekiti, Ondo and Osun states Nigeria. She recently marked her birthday ceremony and the air was filled with wishes for her from colleagues and fans. In this interview, Beyondnewsng.com was able to unravel how she became so popular in less than 3 years of actual practice.

  • Question: Good evening Madam and a very Happy birthday to you. You were celebrated across most broadcast media stations within and outside Ekiti State today for your birthday anniversary. Who are you and what called for such influx of shout out by media practitioners ?

Thank you, I am Pamilerin Owoeye, a native of Ilogbo Ekiti in Ido Osi Local government area of EKiti State and I am married to Mr Kayode Owoeye from Osi Ekiti in thesame Local government area.

I am Mass communication graduate of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Owoh Ondo State Nigeria and had since been working as an entrepreneur in the media industry.

I am not surprised though but I am overwhelmed at the showers of encomium on me from my colleagues and leaders in the media profession for my recent birthday celebration. Sincerely I felt loved not because of anything new, but you see! When you are surrounded with quality people you cant expect anything less. I have always maintained good relationship with friends across the lines in the media world and if they choose to celebrate me, I see nothing wrong in that. I am happy they did and I appreciate them all.

  • _Question: Your Name is Pamilerin, but why do people call you Pam Pam and how do you come about the Pam Media?

Answer: Well; You know, it is a common thing for people to adopt slangs, abbreviations or a part of your name to call you, you hear them call Tunde- Tundex, Bidemi- Bidex, Ade- Adex and so on. That’s why friends shortened my name to PamPam. Although some have said that it is not really about the fact that my Name is  Pamilerin but because of their percieved Smartness and my philosophy of “no wasting time” . I do my things sharp sharp with no delays, Pam! Pam!! Pam!!  as it sounds, they said was more to the reason. (Smiles)

On my company, the Pam Media, is something I never imagined while I was in school. If I was asked my preference about 5 years ago, I loved to work as an employee in the media industry but the orientation has changed Now.

  • Question:  What changed the orientation?

Answer: It is no news anymore that something terrible came over the world in 2020. The Covid19 pandemic that necessitated governments of different Nations to declare lockdown and other measures so as to contain the spread of the virus.

It was indeed a terrible time for the economy of virtually all homes including my that of my parents. I was still with my parents that time, I had not gotten married. As I was thinking of what I could do, many things came through my mind; to learn make up artiste, fashion designing etc. But I realize I couldn’t get sales for all these because the people who would have bought or patronized the business were locked down. I was very helpless.

So one day, a pastor of in our church, Venerable Deji Alabi of St Jude’s Anglican Church Ado Ekiti was to mark his birthday, it was during the lockdown and no one could gather to celebrate. The clergy was very good to our family and I thought of how to appreciate him for all his prayers and sermons. I decided to pick a few of his words and return to him but in a different way.

I chanted it like “Ewi” it was not sweet enough to my hearing and I loved to celebrate the man. So I decided to call one of my brothers who is also a media practitioner, Yemi Olajutemu. I told him what I intended to do and so he told me to send what I did. He did some few additions and subtractions and told me to apply the rising and falling tones where necessary. No doubt, His stands are always deeply and professional. I followed the instructions and I couldn’t believe the words were actually originated from me. As I listened to the rehearsal, I loved the wordings and the coinage.

That was a raw work anyways, but it is a great step to achieving the goal. How do I do the finishing? Ok, I had already established some quality relationships with highly professional and skilled people during my internship. Mr Adeola Adesalu is one of the topmost on the list.

I put a call through and he said no problem. In less than 3 hours, the raw chants had become a piece, it sounded lovely, music added, voice effects and other touchings. I felt good with the job and sent it to Pastor Deji Alabi.

That day, I got more anointings. He prayed and prayed and prayed.

Not too long, My mother’s birthday arrived, I did thesame just for fun and I broadcast through my watsapp status.

To my surprise, few days later one Woman called me and asked that I should make a birthday chant and jingle for her, it sweetens me since I have people who put me through.

After the job was delivered, then the woman asked how much she should pay? I was surprised because I didn’t expect payment. I was doing it for free.

The woman sent money into my account and that was how it started.

People began to request that the sweet voice should voice over their copies, scripts for jingles, documentary and it started flying.

At a point where it was becoming more standard, My husband Collins Kay, Mr Kayode Owoeye suggested I make it a business properly. He advised I register the company, he gave me the moral and financial supports and today, Pam Media has become a name.

  • _Question: How comfortable is your husband with this work, don’t forget you are young couple_

Answer: Waoow. You see, I am just thankful to God for the kind of man he gave me. I would not want to say more than that. Collins Kay, as I call him is just the best man on earth. If I come to another world, I will choose him over and over again. Let me just stop there.

  • _Question: what advice would you want to give to entrepreneurs like you and people who wish to become like you someday_

Answer: Thank you. Loyalty, good character, quality relationships, humility, and business orientation. I could have continued doing my chants for free if not because my husband reorientated me.
