The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Ekiti State chapter, Mr Emmanuel Oke, has charged all heads of schools and teachers to be more dedicated to their duties.
The number one teacher in Ekiti State who is also the Vice Chairman Nigeria Labour Congress in the state made the call in Ado Ekiti while monitoring proceedings as public and private schools resumed for 2023/2024 academic activities.
Some of the school visited by Mr Emmanuel Oke in Ado the state capital were Christ Boys School, AUD Pilot Primary school and Ado Grammar School.
Others were African School Comprehensive High School, St John’s Primary school, Amoye Grammar School, all at Ikere Ekiti and some schools in other local government Areas of the state.
According to him, teachers were being motivated in the state by the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji hence the need for them to reciprocate by giving their best.
“Government has improved teacher’s welfare in the state by the prompt payment of their salaries and arrears as well as giving paliatives, if Government are doing their part, it behoves on we teachers not to disappoint, Oke added.
The NLC Vice Chairman, however, advised teachers to make discipline their watchword and be committed to service delivery.
The Chairman also lauded the Ekiti Government for its giant efforts towards providing condusive learning environment for the students and as well state of the earth facilities.
Oke said
“My brother a lot of my friends when they come to Ekiti, they always ask me where are the public schools in the state, because they can hardly identified Private Schools from public schools.
He described the gesture as a morale booster, for education system in the state which would allow both the pupils and their teachers have a serene environment to learn .
It was an avenue for the NUT boss in the state to interact and encourage pupils and students in all the schools visited, which he said was the first of its kind in the state.
“I want you to face your studies so that you can become somebody great in life, always respect your teachers and make sure you do all your assignment, he advised.
On the free bus donated by government to ease transportation of both the teachers and students, the number one teacher described it as a welcome development.
“Everyone is taking advantage of the free bus provided by the government, as you can see most of the cars being parked in our schools are reducing drastically, because everyone will prefer availing themselves of the government largess, they park their cars home and save more money, so it is a welcome and wonderful development” he noted.
Speaking on the Back to school programme of the wife of Ekiti state Governor, Dr Olayemi Abiodun-Oyebanji Widows and Orphans Hope where hundreds of Orphans and vulnerable children, in the State were presented with Educational materials, Comrade Emmanuel said that the move would go a long way to help parents and Students.
