EKITI NSCDC HOLDS PEACE PARLEY WITH EKITI NBA CHAPELS

Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Ekiti State Command today held a peace parley with the three chapels of Nigeria Bar Association Ado Ekiti, Ikole- Ekiti and Ikere Ekiti branches today at the Command’s Headquarters along Ado /Ikere road, Ekiti State.

The Parley is connected with an ongoing impasse between one of the Command’s officers who was alleged to have assulted a lawyer in of the Command’s divisions in Ado Ekiti.

Speaking at the parley, the State Commandant Mr John Olatunde Fayemi condemned the act and assured the Chapels that the Command has been taking necessary steps to reprimand the erring officers and upon conviction, further disciplinary actions will be taken by the disciplinary committee that will be set up by the command with an assurance that the Corps will not shield any officer who is found guilty of violating Fundamental Human Rights of suspects, complainants and the general public.

Commandant Fayemi who appreciated the efforts of the three Chapels to resolve the matter opined that the two organisations are partners in progress in the temple of justice and matters of assault like this against lawyers should not have come up in the first place because without lawyers, Civil Defence work may be impossible.

The Chairman of NBA Ikole Chapel, Mr A L Lawal esq commended the State Commandant for the peace parley while he frowned at the officer who assaulted one of their members with a call to the Commandant that the erring officer must be punished to serve as deterrence to others who may want to indulge in the horrible act.

The Chairman NBA Ikere Ekiti branch Dr Michael Afolayan thanked the Commandant for his prompt response which he considered timely as the Chapel has not been comfortable with the activities of some officers in the Command in respect of treatment melted to their members in the course of their duties.

In his reaction, Bar L A Fasanmi the NBA Chairman Ado Ekiti branch, condemned the alleged assault and urged the State Commandant to act fast by dishing out deserved punishment so that the ugly act will not repeat itself.

Reacting to the matter, Commandant Fayemi thanked them for accepting the invitation and promised them that disciplinary action will be taken from the command level, zonal and the National headquarters after the completion of preliminary investigation by the command. In the interim, the suspect has been redeployed to the Command Headquarters for interrogation, investigation and further actions .
