The Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, has called on Christians to emulate the values of Jesus Christ by fostering a just and harmonious society.
In his Christmas message to the people of Ekiti State, Aribasoye urged Christian faithful to avoid actions that could harm others and to embrace behaviors that reflect Christ’s exemplary life.
In a press statement released to commemorate this year’s Christmas celebration, the Speaker emphasized the need for Christians and all Ekiti residents to maintain an environment that is welcoming and supportive for everyone, including visitors. He reminded citizens of the humility, service, and sacrifice exemplified by Christ’s birth.
“Jesus Christ came to show us the right way and to guide us toward a righteous and acceptable path in life. His birth and life should inspire Christians to work toward a just, orderly, kind, and godly society,” Aribasoye said. “As Ekiti people and Nigerians, we must see ourselves as agents of change and transformation.”
The Speaker congratulated Christians in Ekiti State for witnessing another Christmas despite the various national and global challenges. He described the season as a time of joy and a reminder of Christ’s mission to save humanity. “Joy is central to the birth of Christ, celebrated by angels as a moment that brings salvation, hope, and transformation to the world,” he noted.
Aribasoye encouraged Christians to resist corruption and uphold high moral standards in their personal and professional lives. He pointed out that such values were essential for creating a better society, urging believers to align themselves with Christ’s mission to purge the world of sin and wrongdoing.
Reflecting on the cultural identity of Ekiti, the Speaker called on citizens to promote the values of ‘Omoluabi’—a Yoruba concept embodying virtues like honesty, integrity, and respect. He said these attributes remain key to maintaining the state’s reputation for strong moral values and responsible leadership.
The Speaker also highlighted the importance of lawmaking in fostering a just society. Quoting Christ’s words, “I came to fulfill the law,” Aribasoye stressed the Assembly’s commitment to enacting laws that protect the people’s interests and promote equity and justice.
“The laws of Christ are meant to shield believers from evil and create a harmonious world. Similarly, the Ekiti State House of Assembly is committed to passing laws that benefit the people and ensure their rights are protected,” he added.
Aribasoye concluded by praying that the season would bring joy, salvation, and transformation to Christians and blessings to Ekiti State. He urged the people to pray for the state and its leaders while supporting the current administration’s shared prosperity agenda.
The Speaker’s message underscored the importance of unity, selflessness, and collective responsibility in advancing the development of Ekiti State during this festive season and beyond.
