Ahead of International Women’s Day, Ekiti Women in Management Empowers Students at Government Science College, Iyin Ekiti

The Ekiti State Women in Management (EKWIM) has kickstarted the commemoration of the 2024 International Women’s Day (IWD) with a remarkable school outreach program at Government Science College, Iyin Ekiti.

This event, which took place on Tuesday, 27th February 2024, saw a convergence of passionate individuals dedicated to empowering young girls and fostering their growth.

Welcoming the EKWIM team, the Principal of Government Science College, Mrs. Taiwo Osatoyinbo, expressed gratitude for the organization’s thoughtful gesture in choosing their institution for such a significant program. She voiced her belief that this initiative would undoubtedly have a positive and lasting impact on the lives of the students.

The Coordinator Ekiti State Women in Management, Dr. (Mrs) Oyeyemi Kayode-Ojo, who doubles as the Permanent Secretary of Cabinet, Governor’s Office outlined the purpose of the visit, emphasizing the importance of including adolescent girls in the International Women’s Day celebrations to inspire them towards a brighter future.

Drawing from her own experiences, she highlighted the transformative effect of similar programs during her secondary school days and expressed hope that the students would follow suit in the future.

The program featured engaging sessions aimed at equipping the students with essential skills for personal and professional development.

The Executive Secretary of Education Trust Fund (ETF), Mrs. Bosede Jegede, who delivered a career talk, encouraged the students to cultivate a productive mindset and embrace leadership qualities necessary for success.

A health talk on “Emotional Intelligence for Teenagers” was also delivered by Mrs. Bosede Alowooye, a State Epidemiologist. She enlightened the students on the significance of emotional intelligence in navigating the challenges of adolescence, urging them to develop self-awareness and effective decision-making skills.

The highlight of the event was the distribution of EKWIM encouragement letters to all female students, accompanied by gifts for the entire student body.

The Head Prefect Girl, Miss Ayomide Ebunoluwa, expressed heartfelt appreciation on behalf of her fellow students, pledging to utilize the knowledge gained for their collective betterment.

The EKWIM team posed for photographs with the school principal and a select group of female students, marking the successful culmination of a day filled with empowerment and inspiration.

As Nigeria prepares to celebrate International Women’s Day, initiatives like this serve as a testament to the commitment towards gender equality and the uplift of young women across the nation.
