APC Chieftain Cautions Melaye Over Attacks On Tinubu
A member of the Ekiti State House of Assembly representing Oye Constituency 1, Hon Tope Longe, has warned former Senator Dino Melaye against “unwarranted attacks” on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that what Nigeria needs is constructive engagements that add value to governance, to enhance living conditions among Nigerians.
In a statement in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State capital, Longe, who is the Chairman of the House Committee on Trade and Investment, described Melaye “and his co-travellers as a bunch of frustrated politicians who are envious of the achievements of Tinubu-led administration and looking for every opportunity to derail the administration”.
Questioning Melaye’s antecedents as an opposition leader who should “responsibly provide alternative views to strengthen governance”, Longe noted that Melaye instead employed theatrics to cause distractions in the polity, making himself a jester that “is grossly incompetent to criticise Tinubu’s administration in his development goals”.
He described Melaye’s years in the Senate a colossal waste to his people and challenged him to point to a single project he completed during his time in the Red Chamber.
Describing the former Senator’s emergence in the nation’s political space as a “flawed leadership recruitment process”, Longe argued that Melaye and his sorts ought not to be anywhere near the nation’s political leadership.
The lawmaker argued that save for Tinubu’s emergence in 2023, Nigeria would have gone under “as a result of the lacklustre and directionless performance of previous administrations”.
He counselled Melaye “and his co-jesters” in the opposition parties to put their houses in order to meet the ruling APC on the field rather than attacking Tinubu and rubbishing the life-impacting and transformational projects of his administration.
“Recent governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states ought to have humbled Melaye that Nigerians can never put their trust in any environment he calls the shots because of his antecedents as a hooligan and uncaring politician that flaunts cars and mansions while his constituents live in abject poverty.
“Melaye is toxic to any system to which he is active. We saw that in the election he contested in his state when he was overtly rejected at polls.
“Nigerians also saw the calamitous showing of Melaye’s party in the recently concluded Osun and Ekiti elections as a pointer to the failure that awaits his party in the presidential elections next year,” Longe explained.
He added: “How can a bunch of buccaneers, who were actually responsible for the mess we are going through in Nigeria now come together to pretentiously pretend to be the messiahs?”
Longe said Nigerians would never entrust the nation’s partrimony in the “hands of spent politicians and looters”, who are bereft of any idea and whose only area of competence is destruction.
