By Akin Oluwadare Jnr.
I was thrilled to be admitted to the Book Club @ Peace House under the leadership of Mrs ‘Peju Babafemi. She is a reader, a leader and a technocrat who presently occupies the prestigious seat of the Head of Service of the Ekiti State Civil Service.
In a world that has dynamically gravitated towards instant messaging and short codes as means of communication, I am particularly excited that we still have a few leaders championing the reading of books as a veritable means of transmitting knowledge.
My inspirational page this week is dedicated to the Book Club @ Peace House. My book, Winning Strategies, has been nominated for reading and discussion at the third edition of the book club programme of the Book Club @ Peace House.
What about the book?
Winning Strategies is a handbook for leaders and aspiring leaders, written by Akin Oluwadare Jnr, my humble self. The book was unveiled in November 2020 and officially launched in June 2021.
Why Winning Strategies?
Mrs Babafemi read the book and has chosen to share the tips she got from the book with a wider audience of leaders and aspiring leaders in the book reading series of the Book Club @ Peace House, June 2022 edition.
How did Mrs Babafemi come across the book?
She, alongside other cabinet members of the Ekiti State executive council, got her copy out of the 100 copies bought by the Ekiti State Government during the launch of the book in June 2021.
What about the author?
Mrs Babafemi and the author are yet to meet physically. Before reading the book, she read the blurbs on the back cover. Interestingly, one of the blurbs was written by her former professional colleague. After reading the fascinating blurbs, she became particularly attracted to the book. Being a reader herself, she read the book and thereafter established a contact with the author (my humble self) through her former colleague, Professor Ayo Olajuyigbe. The rest, they say, is history.

Readers are leaders. Please join us at the Book Club @ Peace House as we read and discuss Winning Strategies. Professor Christoper Oluwadare of the department of Sociology, Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti will be the lead discussant. Perhaps you are wondering, let me also say that I look forward to meeting Professor Christopher Oluwadare at the event and for the first time too. Our last name is an interesting coincidence. Smiles.
Benjamin Franklin said this and it resonates in me always – “if you would not be forgotten as soon as you are dead and rotten, either write things worth reading or do things worth the writing”. I choose both.
I am as humbled as elated that my work announced me to Mrs Babafemi even before meeting her in person. She is indeed a leader to emulate. Immense thanks to her for the choice of Winning Strategies for the third edition of book reading of the Book Club @ Peace House.
Here is my parting words for this week – autograph your work and let your work speak for you even when you are miles away.
It’s a new week. Be intentional.
