As Nigeria marks yet another Democracy Day, an Ode-Ekiti-born chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Pharmacist Adedayo Oluwasanmi, has joined well-meaning Nigerians in paying glowing tributes to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji for their commitments to deepening democratic governance and delivering the dividends of democracy to the citizens of the nation
Oluwasanmi, a strong advocate of democratic ideals and good governance, described President Tinubu as a foundational pillar in Nigeria’s democratic struggle, whose bold political sacrifices and strategic leadership have helped shape the present democratic space.
In a statement released to commemorate the 2025 Democracy Day, the philanthropist and and grass root mobilizer acknowledged Tinubu’s long-standing fight for democratic restoration, dating back to his days as a pro-democracy activist during the June 12 struggle.
According to him,
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not just Nigeria’s Commander-in-Chief today; he is one of the few true sons of Nigeria who fought relentlessly for the democracy we enjoy. From standing with MKO Abiola to providing shelter and funding for members of pro-democracy movements in exile, his legacy is rich and worth celebrating.”
Oluwasanmi urged the President to remain committed to implementing people-centered policies that reflect the spirit of democracy.
While acknowledging the challenges facing the country, he charged the President to ensure that the dividends of democracy, such as security, economic stability, job creation, quality education, and healthcare, become more deeply rooted and evident in the lives of ordinary Nigerians.
He called on President Tinubu to continue building institutions that promote transparency, justice, and inclusive development.
Turning attention to the home front, Ekiti State, Oluwasanmi gave kudos to Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his continued commitment to good governance and grassroots development in Ekiti State. He recalled the governor’s historical role in the agitation that led to the creation of Ekiti State, noting that Oyebanji has remained consistent in his vision for the state’s growth and national recognition.
“Governor Oyebanji is a shining example of continuity and loyalty to the dreams of our forebears. From helping midwife the creation of Ekiti to now serving as governor, he has shown consistency, humility, and passion for our state’s development,” Oluwasanmi said.
He gave kudos to the governor for restoring public confidence in governance through strategic investments in infrastructure, education, health, agriculture, and job creation.
The APC chieftain noted that the current administration in Ekiti has demonstrated that democracy must translate to development, citing the governor’s open-door policies, frequent engagements with stakeholders, and youth empowerment initiatives as examples of participatory governance which represents the true meaning of democracy.
He particularly commended the governor’s efforts in repositioning Ekiti as a beacon of excellence in education and civil service reforms, saying these efforts have placed the state in the national limelight for the right reasons.
Oluwasanmi added that Oyebanji’s calm, inclusive, and purpose-driven leadership style has significantly reduced political tension and increased public trust.
The pharmacist cum political actor, who is also a community development advocate, urged citizens across Nigeria and particularly those in Ekiti, to rally behind both President Tinubu and Governor Oyebanji.
He emphasized that democracy thrives best when citizens are active participants, not just observers.
“As we celebrate Democracy Day, I urge our people to support our leaders. Let us offer constructive criticisms, remain patient where necessary, and continue to hold our elected leaders accountable. Democracy is a shared journey, and the role of the people cannot be overstated,” he said.
Oluwasanmi expressed optimism that Nigeria will overcome its present challenges and emerge stronger under the current leadership. He called for unity, peace, and sustained political stability, stating that these are non-negotiable ingredients for any successful democracy.
The APC chieftain reaffirmed his commitment to advancing democratic values at both the local and national levels and pledged to continue supporting initiatives that would improve the quality of life of the people, especially in Ekiti State.
