The Deputy Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Bolaji Olagbaju has charged women to participate more in politics to ensure their voices are heard and their ideas are implemented.
The Deputy Speaker gave the charge during a courtesy visit of the National Council of Women’s Societies,(NCWS), Ekiti Branch, to her office at the Assembly complex in Ado Ekiti.
Olagbaju who thanked members of the association for the visit, also commended them for taking the bold step of championing the course of women in the face of numerous social and economic challenges.
She described the association as one close to her heart, as her mother was one of the few people who brought the group to Ekiti State.
The Deputy Speaker while describing the low participation of women in politics as one of the clogs hindering the decision-making processes, legislative agenda and focus on women and girl child issues, stated the need for more women engagement in politics as it is known to be a game of numbers.
She expressed her readiness to partner with the association in promoting its unique ideas, necessary to shaping the lives of Ekiti women positively, and creating a more equitable society that epitomizes women’s inclusiveness in general.
She also promised the association on it’s behalf to ensure a robust engagement with the executive arm, particularly, the wife of the Governor, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, on ways to advance the interest of women for the collective benefit of the state and the country at large.
Earlier, the group led by its National Secretary, Yeye Oba Bolatito Alabi, and the President, of Ekiti State Chapter, Alhaja Raliat Oyebade in their addresses, stated that the purpose of the visit was to congratulate Rt. Hon. Bolaji Olagbaju on her emergence as the Deputy Speaker of the Ekiti State 7th Assembly and to seek partnership with her office and the House as a body in promoting the ideologies of the group.
