Ekiti State House of Assembly has passed two bills, aimed at the establishment of a Road Fund Board in the state, and proper maintenance and rehabilitation of deplorable roads.
The bills titled Ekiti State Rural Access Roads Authority bill, 2023 and Ekiti State Roads Funds bill, 2023 were passed at plenary on Tuesday.
Lawmakers at the plenary unanimously clamoured for the passage of the two bills due to the expected advantages that their implementations would bring to the people.
Members that included Honourables Yemi Osatuyi; Stephen Aribasoye; Akin Oso and Goke Olajide, Femi Akindele and the Deputy Speaker, Rt Hon Hakeem Jamiu in their contributions affirmed that the bills would have positive impact on the living standard of Ekiti people, most especially farmers who would have access to good roads to transport farm produce.
They agreed that the two bills will complement each other, towards promoting and sustaining development in the maintenance of all classes of state roads in Ekiti.
According to the lawmakers, the Rural Access Road Authority bill will be more effective through the passage of the State Road Funds bill.
In her contributions, the Speaker of the House, Rt Hon Olubunmi Adelugba praised her colleague for their thorough considerations of the bills and expressed confidence that the implementations of the bills would enhance social and economic well being of Ekiti people.
The two bills were unanimously passed and read for the third reading by the Clerk of the House, Mr Tola Esan.
