Ekiti NSCDC Sensitizes Divisional Officers, Desk Officers On Conflict Resolution

The NSCDC Commandant in Ekiti State Mr. John Olatunde Fayemi has urged Peace and Conflict resolution desk officers in the 16 Divisional Offices and 17 Local Government Development Areas neither to relent nor rest in their oars base on their current achievements in the aspect resolving disputes among members of the public.

The commandant made this known at the Command’s Headquarters Ado Ekiti during a one day programme tagged “evaluation and sensitization programme for Desk Officers on key Performance indicators for peace and conflict management”.

The one day programme had  resource persons from Peace and Conflict Resolution Unit, National Headquarters Abuja, Superintendent of the Corps, among others where the NCSDC boss charged the officers to build more on their achievements in order to fulfil the purpose of peaceful and harmonious relationship among Nigerians.

A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Tolu Afọlábí explained that the programme became necessary  following some identified issues  hitherto perceived as a challenging to the desk officers.

A resource Person at the event, SC Bisi Idoko who highlighted the key Performance indicators, enumerated the need to have an all inclusive programmes that can cater for increasing disputes between communities most especially the incessant case of Farmers and herders clash, land disputes and other unavoidable disputes which often parvade the Nigerian Communities.

Clarifications were made concerning the name of the unit which is now Peace and Conflict Resolution Unit against Peace and Conflict Resolution Management which some commands adopted.

Commandant Fayemi who thanked the Commandant General of the Corps Dr Abubakar Ahmed Audi (mni) for his landmark achievement in the Corps, most  especially the various interventions and initiatives geared towards reducing conflict in the society. He explained that the Corps has received tremendous support from the Commandant General, hence Officers and Men of the Unit must show appreciation by firming up their works in order to actualize the vision and mission of the corps.

Also, the Head, Peace and Conflict Resolution Unit ACC Yusuff Odunayo lauded the Commandant General for facilitating the programme. He urged the desk officers to cascade the programme in their respective divisions to enlighten others who were not present at the programme.

 

Present at occasion were the Area Commanders, Divisional Officers and Peace and Conflict Resolution desk officers numbering about 56 who all resolved to work together towards improving on their achievements.  They plegded to immediately start a sensitization and awareness campaign for members of public to make use of the Unit to settle their disputes in a win-win situation.
