As part of efforts of Governor Biodun Oyebanji Olayemi’s administration to ensure food surplus in the State, a lot of farm implements have been distributed to farmers to boost agricultural production in the state with a promise that more supports for Ekiti farmers would be intensified.

The Special Adviser to Governor Oyebanji on Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Ebenezer Boluwade gave the assurance while distributing agricultural inputs and other farming implements in Ido Ekiti in Ekiti North Senatorial District of the State under the Ekiti State CARES Result Area 2, implemented by Ekiti State Fadama Coordination Office.

Mr. Boluwade who enumerated the items distributed to include, water pump machines, pepper grinding machines, poultry feeds, fish feeds, drugs, vaccine, fish fingerlings, day old chicks and knapsack sprayer among others said more than 500 farmers have benefited in the programme. He said the objective of the Scheme is to ensure food security and safe functioning of food supply chains for poor household.

The Special Adviser noted that the water pump machines could be used to pump water from the water body to wet their crops such as rice and vegetables during this dry season to generate income. He appealed to arable crops farmers to exercise patience as the hybrid maize and rice seeds/cassava stems already procured will not be distributed now until the onset of the rainy season in 2023.

He advised the farmers to be security conscious while working on their farms noting that, they should raise alarm and inform the security agents whenever they notice any strange face and movement.

Mr. Boluwade however called on the traditional rulers to collaborate with the state government and other security agents to guide their subjects, especially farmers jealously.
