Gender activist, Precious Olofinyokun bags GBV award, dedicates honour to Erelu Bisi Fayemi

A gender activist, Miss Precious Olofinyokun, on Sunday bagged a merit award from the Nigerian Women Achievers Award for her enormous contributions to the fight against domestic violence and sexual abuse in the country.

The award ceremony which took place at Oriental Hotel, Lagos, was put together to celebrate and project women doing great exploits in their chosen fields and career.

Olofinyokun, who is the Founder and Executive Director of Society Development Foundation for Women and Children (SODEF) has, in the last few years, been in the forefront of fight against gender-based violence, women inclusion in leadership, children and girls empowerment among other interventions.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Convener of the award, Mrs Joy Osusu, said Olofinyokun was considered for the honour in recognition of her immeasurable contributions to women development in the country, especially in the area of fight against sexual abuse.

Osusu who congratulated the awardee for her extensive work in gender advocacy, encouraged her to be more dedicated and committed to the advancement of women and girls in the country.

In her remarks after receiving the award, Olofinyokun hailed the organisers for recognising her works in the last few years. She dedicated the award to immediate past First Lady of Ekiti State, Erelu Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi, her sister, Olabimpe and all survivors of Gender Based Violence.

She specifically commended Erelu Fayemi for discovering her and supporting her passion for a career in gender advocacy for overall development of the society.

Olofinyokun who has received many awards and nominations, said the latest award would spur her to do more for humanity, especially in championing the cause of women and the vulnerable people with constant advocacy, enlightenment and interventions towards ending domestic violence and sexual abuse.

She said: ”

This award means so much to me because it’s a call to do more for humanity. I dedicate the award to Her Excellency Erelu Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi, for her motherly support and for believing in me, identifying my passion and turning it into career.

” Also to my big sister, Mrs Olabimpe Oladele for her support and words of Encouragement, and to Every Girl child out there, your dream is valid, follow it, work towards it and believe in it.”
