Immunization to commence on 30th September to 3rd October in Ekiti ~SPHCDA Boss, Seluwa

 

The Executive Secretary Ekiti State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Ayodele Seluwa has assured that the first round of National Immunisation Plus Days(NIPDs) will commence from Saturday 30th of September to Tuesday 3rd of October 2023 across the 16 LGAs in Ekiti.

Seluwa who gave the assurance while representing Commissioner for Health Dr Oyebanji Filani at the flag off ceremony of the programme at Erijiyan on Thursday said two drops of polio vaccine will be given to children aged 0-59 months,urging the care givers and parents whose children fall within the age range to get them prepared as health workers will be visiting communities, schools, religious institutions, and other designated places such as markets and motor parks where the target group can be found.

The Ekiti PHCDA boss stressed that present administration of Governor Abayomi Oyebanji places premium on the health sector, adding that the governor is irrevocably committed to the provision of quality healthcare delivery to the citizens of the state which has been clearly demonstrated by the priority accorded the health sector. He noted that the various intervention put in place by the governor will, in no small measure, help in reducing maternal and child mortality and also improve the health and wellness of the good people of Ekiti State.

While speaking at the event, chairman Ekameta LCDA, Hon. Johnson Oyebola commended the efforts of the Agency and assured that his people will leave no stone unturned to ensure the effective and successful implementation of the programme.

UNICEF representative Mr.Chima Obi and Solina Representative Dr Besong Mathias, expressed their satisfaction with the turn out of the people.

Addressing people at the event, The Director Disease Control and Immunization Dr Nicholas Ojo said the programme which is bi-annual with integrated approach is aimed at boosting the immunity of children under five years against the Circulating Vaccine Derived Polio Virus Type 2(CVDPV2) stressing that the exercise will also provide basic health interventions that are highly effective in reducing child mortality and improving the health of the children in Ekiti State and Nigeria at large.

State Immunization Officer, Mrs Christianah Ajimati and State Health Educator, Mrs Olajumoke Oguntoye also spoke on the importance of the Immunisation to the children under 5years irrespective of how many times they have taken the vaccine in the past.

Present at the flag off ceremony were the monarchs of the towns under Ekameta LCDAs which are Olahan of Erijiyan Ekiti Oba Adegoroye Omosebi,Olupole of Ipole Ekiti Oba Ezekiel Oladele and the Regent of Ikogosi Ekiti,Princess Grace Omobola Adepoju.

Gifts were distributed to the care givers and administration of the vaccine were demonstrated by health workers at the event.
