Mid-Year Outreach: More Than Hundred Beneficiaries Receive Relief Materials, Cash Supports from Nissi Foundation in Ado Ekiti

The Atikankan area of Ado-Ekiti witnessed a wave of compassion and support on Monday, as the Nissi Foundation, an Ekiti State-based NGO, reached out to the less privileged and the downtrodden in the state capital.

The event, spearheaded by the foundation’s founder, Dr (Mrs) Oyeyemi Kayode Ojo, was aimed at providing support as well as uplifting the elderly, widows, and less privileged members of the community.

The outreach which was a continuation of the program held on Sunday, July 21, tagged “Perfecting Strength in Weakness” at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Divine Assurance Parish, situated behind the old NECO office in Ajebamidele, off Ikere Road, Ado-Ekiti, had about one hundred beneficiaries as the gathering provided a platform to discuss the challenges faced by the elderly and explore ways to address these issues.

The outreach, which has become a cornerstone of community support, was attended by a diverse group of participants bond with the spirit of mutual aid and communal love.

Drawn from 2 Corinthians 12:9, the theme ‘Perfecting Strength in Weakness’ highlighted the resilience and inner strength of the elderly.

The founder of the foundation, Dr (Mrs) Oyeyemi Kayode-Ojo who explained that the theme was selected to showcase the strength of the elderly despite their vulnerabilities, emphasized that the foundation’s mission is to empower them to embrace their strengths and contribute meaningfully to their communities, even in their later years.

Mrs. Kayode-Ojo who affirmed that the foundation’s goal is to ensure that aging individuals feel celebrated rather than sidelined noted that even though the foundation typically holds the program twice every year, the current economic situation necessitated an extension of their support to include not only the elderly and widows but also the younger generation.

“This time, we extended our outreach to include young people as well,” Dr Kayode-Ojo said. “It’s part of our mission to give back to society, especially during these harsh economic times.” She acknowledged the unique experiences and wisdom of the elderly, celebrating their contributions to society and reminding them of their enduring strength.

The founder expressed gratitude to the foundation’s supporters from within and outside the country while encouraging beneficiaries to remain steadfast in their faith, reiterating the foundation’s commitment to promoting holistic aging and ensuring every elderly individual feels valued and supported.

A resource person, Dr. Bosede Alowooye, who spoke on ‘Perfecting Strength in Old Age,’ emphasized the power of resilience and community support. Sharing personal anecdotes and biblical references, Dr. Alowooye inspired attendees to find strength through faith and community, highlighting the importance of physical and mental well-being, regular exercise, balanced diet, mental stimulation, as well as regular health check-ups.

Dr. Alowooye commended the Nissi Foundation for creating supportive environments where senior citizens can share experiences and the less privileged find encouragement.

In his sermon titled “Perfecting Strength in Weakness,” Pastor Ojo Afolabi explained that weaknesses provide opportunities for God’s grace to manifest. He encouraged attendees to explore their vulnerabilities, noting that divine strength often shines brightest in moments of frailty.

Citing biblical figures who overcame flaws through divine intervention, Afolabi illustrated that God’s grace is most powerful in our weakest moments.

The project manager of the foundation, Mr Tope Ogundare who thanked the volunteers, sponsors, and participants who contributed to the event’s success, reaffirmed the foundation’s dedication to its mission and called for ongoing community support to achieve its goals.

Some of the beneficiaries including Mrs Eunice Olomola, Olumoorin and Mrs Olawumi Ojo, among other participants lauded NISSI FOUNDATION for its comprehensive approach to addressing the varied needs of the elderly, offering social interaction, health support, and spiritual encouragement, to making significant impact on many lives.

A special prayer session was led by the husband of the Founder, Pastor Martins Kayode Ojo, while the event featured a range of activities designed to engage and uplift participants, sharing experiences, and testimonies, and making meaningful connections with God.
