The Ekiti state chairman of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP) Elder Joel Akinola has called on the newly inaugurated caretaker committee of the Ado Ekiti Branch of the Union to toe the path dignity and discharge their duties with utmost respect for the union’s constitution.
Akinola said this at the swearing in of the committee held at the Union’s secretariat in Ado Ekiti where he berated the last Executive members for flagrant breach of the union’s constitution which earned them them dissolved by the authority of the National body.
He explained that the State chapter of the union would not allow some selfish individuals to tarnish their revered image and the image of the state through anti –union and anti-government activities despite the huge effort of the state government at providing relief for the senior citizens who whose hope was uncertain in the previous administrations in the state.
He explained that after series of irreconcilable meetings and interventions on matters arising from the Local Government, the NUP national body in Abuja gave the directive to dissolve the former Exco Members under the leadership of Mr Ayodele Ogunsakin and others who were accused of abuse of office and gross misconduct, insubordination as well as inconsequential activities.
Akinola explained that the union is grateful that the Oyebanji led administration is seriously attending to the welfares of the retirees through the payment of over 1 billion naira to offset part of the gratuity owed by the previous administration as well as payment of arrears and check off dues said they would not allow just one branch out of the 16 branches in the state to make the union look ungrateful to God for the new hope the government is giving.
Aside from the dissolution, Akinola affirmed the national union has also placed a ban on every member of the dissolved exco, hence they forfeited every privilege to contest any position in the future.
Also the state secretary Comrade Agbaje Oni who administered the oath of allegiance on the caretaker committee corroborated the state chairman that the National union found the dissolved excos wanting. He charged the committee to be transparent and carry the dignity of the union.
Members of the CC are Comrade Wilfred Adesuyi Toluwalase as Chjairman, Bashorun Tiawo Aiyegbusi as Vice chairman, Mr Segun Makinde as treasurer, Mrs Sabinah Adeniyi as Auditor, Makanju Olusegun,Kolawole Olusiji Pius Olatunji and Mr J.O Olorunfemi.
The committee stands to run a six month administration before a substantive election to usher in new excos.
