Organizers of the Ekiti Obas Cup were glad to listen to the football history back in the 60s and 70s from one of the foremost royal fathers in Ekiti State, Owatapa the Great, Oba David Makanjuola Ajaja during their recent Trophy Tour to Itapa Ekiti in Oye Local Government area.
The traditional rulers who was delighted at recieving the organizers in his palace alongside the gold plated trophy that was presented to him by a son of the soil, Ayo Omotosho a. k. a Oscar.
Oba Ajaja lauded the organizers for deeming it fit to visit him saying that his love for the round leather game has been since childhood when he was representung the town across the old Ondo State and beyond.
Oba Ajaja also mentioned other royal fathers including the Apeju of Ilupeju Ekiti who was described as a prolific footballer in his young age
Owatapa the great promised to supoort the organizers of the Obas Cup saying that it was high time people developed grassroot sports most especially to Foster peace and unity as well as used as a tool to discouraging thuggery among youth. He sought for peace during the forthcoming Governorship election in the state
Oba David Makanjuola Ajaja popularity called “Soccer” by his admirers recounted the nickname of the Apeju of Ilupeju which he said was called “Tear Gas” due to his powerful shots .
Also at the occasion, Engineer Ayo Omotosho was honoured as Pillar of Support for Football for his philanthropy towards encouraging young footballers in Ekiti State.

Omotosho who is the President of Agbana Football Club of Ado Ekiti was elated to recieve the portrait given him by the organizers of Ekiti Obas Cup while promising not to relent in supporting youth at showcasing their talents and lifting the name of Itapa Ekiti to the world.
