It is an established fact that the current economic situation world over and Nigeria particularly is making people go as well as stretched beyond the limits of their diurnal rhythm to put food on the table and make ends meet, which of course result to the overuse of their bodies, hence low life expectancy and short span.
Worried by the rate of death caused by Stress and other related issues in Nigeria, the 1994 to 2000 set of Christ School Ado Ekiti Alumni Association dwelled their 2022 Reunion discussion on how best to dogde and escape the death arrows of Stress.
These alumni who are between the ages of late 30s and Mid 40s are seeing the reality of low life expectancy in the country and the need to spread the knowledge among themselves and the society on how best to cope with life issues and what strategy to adopt at a time.
One of their Senior Colleagues also an alumnus of the school who is a Family Physician, Dr Olumide Obe gave a lecture at the Seminar session.He based his illustration on the Japanese Scholar, Ikigai Principle. He dissected the lines between working for Salary and working for self fulfillment.According to him, Stress is when the pressure of demands is higher than individual’s capacity to cope, which results to physical and psychological responses.Away from the popular medical reasons highlighted as the possible causes of people slumping and dying suddenly, Dr Obe explained that the inability of some people to say the STP (SORRY, THANK YOU and PLEASE) as the case may arise respectively, is the major cause of psychological menses and that this situation causes more damages than the demands of workload and office schedule The medical Expert highlighted Physical signs, behavioural alteration, work related manifestations as parts of the symptoms of stress. He warned people against placing their wellness at per with work and pleasures.
He made a prescription of the 4As (Avoidance, Alteration, Acceptability and Adaptability) as sociological and physiological coping strategies and responsible distressing.
Dr Obe charged people to nurture healthy relationships, free themselves from financial overthinking, have enough sleep and desist from seeing pleasure of drugs and alcohol as the way out of stress.
Earlierhad the Chairman of the 1994/2000 set of Christ School Alumni Association Mr Martins Ayomipo Ojo thanked members for their cooperation.He said that the annual event allows them to meet wine and dine as well chat the way forward, and assist one another, charging them to keep the unity unflagging.
Members of the set from the comprising the Christ boys and Girls Schools treated themselves to nicety and distressed with different delicacies.
