International Women’s Day: Nissi Foundation Advocates Intentional Policies for Elderly, Widowed, Single Parents in Social Inclusion

An Ekiti State based non governmental organisation, Nissi Foundation has called for greater support for the elderly, widows, widowers, single parents, and other vulnerable groups, in a bid to promote better inclusion and equity in the society.

The foundation made the appeal, in a statement signed by the founder, Dr  Oyeyemi Kayode Ojo in commemoration of the 2025 International Women’s Day celebration in Ekiti State.

In the statement entitled “Inspiring Inclusion: Empowering the Vulnerable for a Sustainable Future,” the founder of Nissi Foundation and Permanent Secretary, Special Services, and Cabinet Matters in Ekiti State, Dr. Oyeyemi-Kayode Ojo, emphasized the need for intentional policies and programs that cater to the marginalized.

According to her, “Our elders are custodians of wisdom, yet many of them face neglect and financial hardship. Also widows and single parents struggle daily to provide for their families, while many vulnerable groups remain overlooked. A True progress requires ensuring that these individuals are not just seen but actively supported,” she said.

She highlighted Nissi Foundation’s commitment to enhancing inclusion through community engagement programs for the elderly, economic empowerment initiatives for widows, support  system for single parents, as well as  advocacy for better policies that cater to the needs of marginalized groups.

The NISSI founder highlighted the issues affecting vulnerable populations, including healthcare, financial instability, and social isolation stressing the importance of family and community support, while urging relatives to care for their elderly ones and widowed members.

She further called on policymakers to strengthen social welfare systems and provide better healthcare access for aging populations and struggling families.

“ For us at Nissi Foundation, we will continue to drive initiatives that uplift and support the vulnerable. Inclusion is not about charity; it is about justice. We must all play a role in ensuring that no one is left behind,” she added.
