The Chancellor of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Dr. Tunji Olowolafe, has commended the education policies and interventions of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, describing them as among the most ambitious and far-reaching reform initiatives in Nigeria’s history.

Olowolafe made the remarks on Saturday during the inauguration of a state-of-the-art Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Experience Centre at EKSU, Ado-Ekiti, commissioned by the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.

The facility was delivered through the Renewed Hope Initiative in partnership with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and the Ekiti State Government as part of the First Lady’s one-day working visit to the state.

Speaking at the event, the EKSU Chancellor said the achievements recorded by the Tinubu administration in less than three years had been transformative, particularly in the education sector.

He cited the allocation of N3.52 trillion to education in the 2025 Federal Budget, the establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), and the creation of specialised universities as clear indicators of the Federal Government’s commitment to expanding access to quality education and strengthening human capital development.

According to him, the initiatives reflect a deliberate strategy to equip Nigerian youths with the knowledge and skills required to thrive in an increasingly competitive global environment.

Olowolafe also described the newly inaugurated ICT Experience Centre as a significant investment in the future of EKSU students, noting that the facility would provide opportunities for digital learning, innovation and technological advancement.

“We are here to open a door to digital literacy, digital fluency, and the kind of practical, future-ready education that our students need to compete and lead, not just in Nigeria, but across the world,” he said.

The Chancellor further expressed delight that the university’s long-standing aspiration for a world-class ICT facility had finally been realised.

“It is heartwarming that EKSU’s 44-year-old dream of having a world-class ICT centre has become a reality through the intervention of Senator Oluremi Tinubu and the support of the Federal Government,” he added.

Earlier, the First Lady said the ICT Centre was established to enhance educational opportunities and prepare young Nigerians for success in the digital economy.

She explained that the collaboration between the Renewed Hope Initiative and TETFund was designed to expand access to technology-driven learning and equip students with relevant digital competencies.

According to her, the facility will serve as a hub for learning, research and innovation, while fostering creativity, entrepreneurship and practical problem-solving among students.

Senator Tinubu stressed that technology remains a critical driver of national development, adding that sustained investment in digital infrastructure is essential to preparing Nigerian youths for global competitiveness.

The event attracted several prominent dignitaries, including the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima; Senate Leader, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele; Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji; his wife, Dr Olayemi Oyebanji; Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim; Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye, and other government officials and stakeholders.
