ATTEMPTED MURDER: EKITI COURT REMANDS TWO

An Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has granted an order to remand Clement Olusola (a.k.a. Jogodor) 21 and Afolayan Opeyemi (a.k.a. Bumber) 23 in the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Ado Ekiti for attempted murder.

According to the charge, the two defendants are reasonably suspected to have committed the offence of conspiracy and attempted murder on Alex Aluko on the 26th of February, 2022, around 8:30pm.

Requesting for the remand order, the Police prosecutor, Inspector Leramo Caleb said, granting the order will allow Police complete their investigation and forward their case file to office of Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

In his statement to the police, the victim said, there was a misunderstanding between the defendants and his co-tenants which he intervened, unsatisfied with his intervention, they started shouting and disturbing the peaceful environment, when he can no more bear the noise, he left the scene, he was about entering his room, suddenly the defendants broke bottles and stabbed him in the neck and arm.

The offence runs contrary to Section 516 and 320 of the Criminal Code Cap. C16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

In his ruling, Magistrate Saka Afunso said the defendants are hereby ordered to be remanded at the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Ado Ekiti pending when the legal advice would be ready. The prosecution is also ordered to send the duplicate case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

Meanwhile, the case has been adjourned to 7/4/2022 for mention.
