The Immediate Past and Pioneer Registrar of the Bamidele Olumilua University of Science and Technology, Ikere Ekiti, Mr. Gbenga Ojo is dead.
Mr. Ojo died after a protracted illness at the Afe Babalola University Multi-system Hospital in Ado Ekiti.
A statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Temitope Akinbisoye said Mr Ojo who was
born on May 5, 1965, joined the services of the then College of Education, Ikere-Ekiti ( now Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti) in 1988 as Administrative Officer II and rose through the ranks to the post of Deputy Registrar in 2004.
He said the late Gbenga Ojo made history on May 25, 2012 as the first internal candidate in the annals of the College to be appointed the substantive Registrar, a position he held till the College was upgraded to a University.
On January 6, 2021,the late Gbenga Ojo was appointed the pioneer Registrar of the University and held sway till August 3, 2022 when he proceeded on terminal leave which ought to culminate in his retirement from service before his sudden demise.
“The bird of lamentations chirped her songs of melancholy and despair in the early hours of Saturday, 12th November, 2022 signalling that the grim reaper has struck again within the fold of the Bamidele Olumilua University of Education, Science and Technology, Ikere-Ekiti, sending jitters down the spine of everyone and throwing the entire University Community into mourning”.He said
“The consumate administrator and immediate past Registrar, Gbenga Ojo succumbed to the cold hands of death after a protracted illness.”
He described the death of the former Registrar as shocking, untimely and a huge loss to humanity.
According to him, Mr. Gbenga Ojo contributed immensely to the development of the institution, leaving behind unforgettable marks.
He was aged 57.
