A storey building has collapsed in Odo Uri area of Igede Ekiti, in Irepodun Ifelodun local government area, claiming a live, while three others sustained varying degrees of injury.
The victims were a family of four residing in the building, owned by one Olagunju family of Igede Ekiti.
The about thirteen year old girl that died in the incident was said to be the head girl of a primary school in the community.
It was gathered that the house came down around 2am on Tuesday.
Eye witnesses explained that residents of the area came to the rescue of the family members by evacuating them, including two kids who are between 6 and 7 years.
The building, made of mud blocks, was said to have been caving in gradually before the monumental collapse.
The victims were later taken to a private hospital, before the intervention of some government officials who relocated them to the General Adebayo General hospital, Iyin Ekiti.
The Ekiti State Deputy governor, Okinlua Monisade Afuye, who was also there to assess the incident, urged people to be cautious of their environment.
She was of the view that the structure must have given some signs of its imminent collapse, but was ignored.
Okinlua Afuye said that the government would take up the medical bills of the victims and that arrangements would be made for their well-being.
Also, the Permanent Secretary, Ekiti State Emergency Management Agency, Mr Jide Borode, empathized with the family.
He said talks were on with the ministry of physical planning to forestall future occurrence.
The Chairman of Irepodun Ifelodun local government, Chief Babatola Ogundana, ascribed the collapse to old age and lack of maintenance of the building.
He appealed to the state government to put measures in place to prevent a recurrence.
The victims are responding to treatment as at the time of this report.
