Ekiti Farmer Dele Okunoye Lauds Oyebanji’s Administration as Court Restrains Herdsman from Ekiti Farmlands

A farmer and agro investor in Ekiti State, Mr. Dele Okunoye of MAO Organic Farms, has commended the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji for supporting his quest for justice after herders destroyed crops worth over N30 million on his farmland.

Speaking with journalists shortly after a court ruling in Ado-Ekiti, Okunoye narrated how his farm, spanning over 100 acres and planted with rice, maize, cassava, and high-grade Malaysian oil palm, was invaded by herders in August 2024. He expressed relief and appreciation over the legal outcome, describing it as a major step in protecting farmers across the state.

The Ekiti State Magistrate Court, presided over by Magistrate Adeosun, issued a restraining order against the Fulani herder, Alhaji Ibrahim Wakili, prohibiting him and other herders associated with him from encroaching on the said farmland or any surrounding areas.

In court, Wakili swore an oath, pledging never to return to the farm or engage in any form of trespassing. He also promised that none of the herders under his supervision would invade any farmlands again.

Mr. Okunoye applauded the prompt response of key government officials and security agencies who intervened in the matter. He specifically mentioned the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Ebenezer Boluwade; the Special Adviser on Security, Brig. Gen. Ebenezer Ogundana (rtd); Amotekun Commander, Brig. Gen. Olu Adewa; Agro Marshal Commander, ACP Olamide Oni; the RRS team led by CSP Marcus Ogundola; and the prosecuting counsel, Barr. Oshobu Ojo.

He stated that the current administration has rekindled the hopes of farmers in the state, especially by standing behind victims of farm invasions and ensuring their voices are heard through the legal system.

The Ekiti State Government has in recent times intensified efforts to address farmer-herder conflicts through the enforcement of anti-grazing laws, mediation efforts, and support for victims seeking Legal redress.
