The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Ekiti State Command Ado Ekiti has debunked an allegation levelled against the Command on shielding a suspect who was alleged of defiling a minor along Sasa market, Ikere Ekiti.
You will recall that an online news alleged the command that, justice is being delayed in the matter as the suspect has been granted bail contrary to the law of Ekiti State that, defilement is not a bailable offence in the state.
The Command has put the record straight and explained that the suspect was arrested two weeks ago by the operatives of Gender Unit of the Command following a complaint by the victim’s guardian. At a point, the guardian sworn to an affidavit of withdrawing the case which the Command declined.
The Gender Unit swung into action by investigating the case while the suspect was detained for interrogation. The victim was later taken to an appropriate place for medical check up and other tests. Being a weekend, the result was delayed and eventually ready on the 30th of January, 2024.
As a responsible organisation, an incomplete investigation cannot be entertained by the Court not even in a defilement case of this magnitude, rather than keeping the suspect who has been sick while in custody, he was duly granted administrative bail while the case file has been transferred to the department of public prosecution for necessary actions.
The Command is stating out clearly that it will not support any act capable of disrespecting and maligning the good name of the command even in the midst of operational challenges that the Command is facing in the face .
The State Command also wants to inform the good people of the state to continue to eschew violence and embrace peace, shun any act inimical to the development of the State.
Finally, the case has been set before the state for necessary actions laying to rest allegations of complicity and it should be noted that, the result of various test carried out on the victim delayed the transmission of the file to the appropriate quarter hindering the continuation of the suspects trial.
Ekiti State Command of NSCDC under the control of Commandant Sunday Adisa Agboola will not condone any act of indiscipline and will not take it lightly with any of the officers and men of the command who deliberately either by error of commission or omission delayed course of justice or trying to pervert justice.
