ERSTWHILE PARLIAMENTARIAN TITILAYO OWOLABI AKERELE LAMENTS EXCLUSIVISM IN NIGERIAN POLITICS

…….Clamours for higher female inclusion for better society

The National Director of Programs, League of Women Voters of Nigeria (NILOWV) and formal member, Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon. Princess Titilayo Owolabi Akerele has called for more inclusion of female folk in the decision making process as a panacea to tackling the elements of underdevelopment in the country.

Featuring on a live interview program on a state owned Television, the Senate aspirant in Ekiti North Senatorial District under the Social Democratic Party spoke on the  “Barriers to greater Female inclusion in politics”.According to her, lack of Political Will, the popular patriachy system among other factors are responsible for the political chains of the Nigerian women.

She noted that the low inclusion of women in political appointments is a national issue, moreso that the constitution limits the chances of women by allocating just 35% for the gender in the political space.

“Despite the provision of the constitution, the 35% is not even given to women. Political based gender violence is another serious thing that debars our women from coming out to contest elective positions as just yesterday, a woman was attacked with broken bottles at Ayetoro. This is very condemnable and distractive to women who wishes to participate in active politics. Women  has the fear of God the more, they respect their husband, and always think about the future of there children which disallows them to mismanage any position or abuse whichever leadership role they were given” She said.

Hon Owolabi charged women neither to relent nor be deterred by the various challenges they might be facing politically.

“I beseech all our women to always come out and showcase themselves in Politics as the future is bright for any women that can strive. Always keep striving towards achieving the aims and objectives of their participation in Politics.” She Concluded.
