Former students of Professor Abayomi Sunday Fasina have commended him for the resounding success of the 9th Convocation of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), describing it as a milestone in the institution’s academic journey.
The alumni, who were once his students at Ekiti State University (EKSU), conveyed their heartfelt congratulations in a statement signed by their Chairman, Blessing Oluwaseun Adejoro, and Assistant Secretary, Abdulateef Yusuf. Speaking on behalf of over 300 members, they lauded Professor Fasina’s leadership since assuming office as FUOYE’s Vice-Chancellor, noting that his efforts had significantly enhanced the university’s reputation.
The former students expressed delight over the graduation of 8,444 students during the convocation, which also featured several landmark initiatives, including project commissioning, free healthcare services, staff recognition awards, and an endowment fundraising drive. They described the event as a reflection of the Vice-Chancellor’s commitment to academic growth and institutional development.
They particularly celebrated two of their members—Adesoji Gabriel, who obtained a master’s degree in Fisheries and Aquaculture, and Ajayi Samuel Ojo, who bagged a PhD in Soil Sciences and Land Resources—both from FUOYE’s Faculty of Agricultural Sciences. The group noted that these achievements underscore the solid academic foundation and mentorship provided by Professor Fasina during his time at EKSU.
Commending his contributions to the university’s progress, Chairman Adejoro stated, “The success of this convocation speaks volumes about Professor Fasina’s dedication to excellence. His leadership has fostered a culture of peace and stability, while his efforts in securing accreditations for various programmes have further strengthened FUOYE’s standing as a top-tier institution in Nigeria.”
The alumni highlighted key initiatives introduced under Fasina’s tenure, including the expansion of academic programmes such as Medicine and Surgery, Data Science and Analytics, and other postgraduate courses designed to equip students with industry-relevant skills.
Beyond academics, they acknowledged the infrastructural transformation taking place across the Oye and Ikole campuses, citing the construction of new lecture halls, state-of-the-art laboratories, and improved accommodation facilities as critical steps toward creating a conducive learning environment.
The former students also applauded ongoing efforts to enhance staff welfare, promote academic research, and foster international collaborations. They noted that these strides had further positioned FUOYE as a globally competitive institution, attracting prestigious research grants and partnerships.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Assistant Secretary Yusuf affirmed their unwavering support for Professor Fasina’s vision. “His achievements so far have justified the confidence reposed in him, and we are certain he will continue to lead FUOYE toward even greater heights,” he said.
The alumni urged the entire university community to rally behind the Vice-Chancellor’s administration, pledging to contribute their quota toward advancing FUOYE’s academic excellence and institutional development.
