A new Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has assumed duty in Ekiti State, following a formal handing-over ceremony at the State Headquarters along Ikere Road.
The new Commandant, Toma Matthew Enya, was posted from the National Headquarters by the Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, to take over from Commandant Sosina Paul Oluwaseun, who has been redeployed to Jos for a managerial course at the Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies.
The transition of leadership was marked by a change of guards ceremony, conducted by the command’s training department. Officers and men from all formations in the state gathered to witness the lowering of the old flag and the hoisting of a new one, symbolizing the commencement of Commandant Enya’s administration.
In his inaugural address, Enya expressed gratitude to the Commandant General for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the Ekiti State Command. He assured officers and residents that his tenure would build on the achievements of his predecessor while exploring new strategies to curb crime and enhance security across the state.
He acknowledged Ekiti as one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria, attributing this to the collaborative efforts of the state government and security agencies. Enya pledged to strengthen partnerships with organizations, individuals, and groups committed to maintaining peace, particularly in the protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted services to the public.
Emphasizing the Corps’ dedication to fairness, equity, and justice, the new Commandant reaffirmed his commitment to upholding the fundamental human rights of citizens. He called for stronger public support, urging residents to provide timely and actionable intelligence that could aid security operations in tackling criminal activities.
The NSCDC, under his leadership, he said, would intensify efforts in intelligence gathering, community engagement, and rapid response to security threats. He assured that officers would be properly equipped and motivated to discharge their duties professionally.
The ceremony, which was attended by senior officers and rank-and-file personnel, ended with a renewed commitment from the command to work closely with other security agencies in ensuring a safe and secure Ekiti State.
