Fire has razed a shopping complex along Afao road in Ado Ekiti destroying items worth millions of naira.

The Sunday fire, suspected to have started from an electrical connection destroyed at least 10 shops loaded with different items most of which are rated expensive.

One of the shop owners who just took delivery of POPs and other building related items was visibly shocked as he could not imagine the loss that has befallen him despite still having business debts to pay.

Another shop owner, who sells bridal materials Mrs Taiwo Oluwatosin expressed pains that the materials she just brought less than 48 hours back and many materials already deposited for by customers have all been lost to the fire disaster.

Other items being sold at the other shops include food stuffs and assorted wines, among others.

Mr. Bolaji Opeyemi a poultry bird processor and Mrs Bankole, a fashion designer who spoke to our correspondents said the disaster is a huge set back for them as they put their businesses together with hard earned resources and loans at a time Nigerian businesses are faced with tough experiences.

Others, including Mr. Arogumatidi and Mrs Afolayan who is now hospitalized due to injuries sustained around her destroyed shop appealed to government to graciously grant them assistance at this trying time, stressing that the matter will take toll negatively on their health and life.

This development is bringing to the fore the need for a rejigging of the state fire service for rapid response as the people lamented that they did not respond to their distress call on the excuse of lack of water and on going maintenance works.
