Oyebanji’s has lifted Ekiti Women with Various Programs and Development Initiatives— Says Ekiti Commissioner for Women Affairs, Babafemi

The Ekiti State Commissioner for the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Peju Babafemi, has lauded the various investments of the Oyebanji’s administration towards inclusive developmental programs, empowerment, projection and promotion of women into leadership across different levels in the state.

At the 2024 International Women’s day celebration held at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion, New Iyin Road Ado Ekiti, attended by dignitaries, including the First Lady, officials, and women from various Local Government Areas (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs), the Commissioner highlighted the various initiatives spearheaded by the Wife of the Governor Dr. Mrs Olayemi Oyebanji.

Speaking on the theme “Count Her in: Accelerating Gender Equality Through Economic Empowerment,” Mrs Babafemi explained that the celebration aligned with the Human Capital Development Pillar of the Oyebanji administration, fostering inclusive development, providing opportunities for girls and women to thrive and reach their full potential in society.

She noted that empowering adolescent girls, widows, and indigent families, alongside the First Lady’s resilient stance in combating Gender-Based Violence (GBV) through the GBV Management Committee were clear testaments and demonstration of commitment to ending the marginalization women in the polity of the state.

According to her, the wife of the Governor had through the various economic empowerment such as inauguration of the Adire Ekiti Hub, the Widows and Orphans Hope Project (WAOH) are great deals and catalysts for sustainable development for the female populace in the state.

Mrs. Babafemi emphasized that the distribution of food items to women from different LGAs and LCDAs, was a compassionate gesture initiated by the Governor and his wife to prioritize the well-being of women and their families considering the harsh economic weather in the country.

During her address, the wife of the Ekiti State Governor, Dr Olayemi Abiodun-Oyebanji urged women to embrace the Every home a garden initiative of the wife of the President Senator Oluremi Tinubu saying that the initiative would empower women to mitigate the economic downturn in the country through sustainable food production, noting that the theme of this year’s International Women’s was apt.
Dr Abiodun-Oyebanji had earlier inspected farm products exhibited by the women from the local governments across the state.
The Ekiti State Deputy governor, Okinlua Monisade Afuye, in her goodwill message, praised the wife of the governor for Reaching out to women, widows and indigents in the state.

Also, the State Deputy Speaker, Mrs Bolaji Olagbaju, Women Special Advisers to the Governor and other Senior government officials were among dignitaries at the occasion.
