The spokesman of the House of Representatives, Hon. Akintunde Rotimi, is set to deliver the maiden edition of the Chief Biodun Akin Fasae Annual Public Lecture organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ekiti State Council.
The lecture, instituted in honour of the first Chief Press Secretary in Ekiti State, Chief Biodun Akin Fasae, is designed to celebrate his legacy and stimulate conversations around contemporary issues shaping the media profession.
Rotimi will speak on the theme, “The Media and Artificial Intelligence,” a subject considered timely in view of the growing influence of emerging technologies on journalism practice and information management. The lecture will be followed by a panel discussion titled, “Holding Government Accountable: The Best Approach,” where stakeholders are expected to examine strategies for strengthening transparency and democratic governance.
According to a statement issued by the NUJ Chairman in the state, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi, the event is scheduled to hold on Friday, March 27, 2026, at Sanni Abacha Hall, Okebarike, Old Governor’s Office, Ado Ekiti, beginning at 10 a.m.
The union disclosed that the programme would attract distinguished personalities from diverse sectors, including government officials, media practitioners, academics and members of civil society. It added that proceedings would be broadcast live on selected radio stations and streamed across various social media platforms to ensure wider participation.
Highlight of the event will be the decoration of selected individuals with the National Award of Excellence, as approved by the NUJ National President, Alhaji Alhassan Yahaya. Among the awardees are Hon. Akintunde Rotimi, Ekiti State Commissioner for Youth Development, Gold Adesola, Commissioner for Information, Chief Taiwo Olatubosun, and the Chief Executive Officer of YSJ Agro Allied Limited, Oluwayemisi Joluwe.
The NUJ called on members of the public to attend the lecture and actively participate in the discourse, noting that the engagement is expected to deepen conversations on the evolving role of the media in an era increasingly shaped by technology.
