Ikole LG Appointees Intensify Stakeholder Engagement to Boost APC Membership Registration

Appointees from Ikole Local Government Area have stepped up coordinated efforts to address the low turnout recorded in the ongoing All Progressives Congress membership registration exercise, describing the situation as a strategic concern that requires urgent grassroots response.

The move reflects growing awareness within the party that sustained political strength depends not only on electoral victories but also on broad based and active membership participation at the local level.

Concerned by the slow pace of registration, the appointees initiated a series of engagements with key stakeholder groups across the local government. These meetings brought together Community Youth Presidents, community based student leaders, the Federation of Ekiti State Students Union, the Federation of Ikole Local Government Students Union, APC youth leaders, as well as registration agents and their supervisors.

Discussions focused on identifying practical barriers to participation, including awareness gaps, mobilisation challenges, and logistical constraints affecting the e registration process.

Beyond diagnosis, the engagement sessions emphasised immediate action. Stakeholders were urged to take ownership of mobilisation within their respective constituencies, particularly among youths and first time registrants who remain critical to the party’s long term relevance. Participants agreed that increasing registration figures is not merely a numerical exercise but a political investment that strengthens internal legitimacy and prepares the party for future contests.

The mobilisation team commended the leadership of the APC in Ikole Local Government for its sustained commitment to party growth, noting that existing structures provide a foundation that must now be energised. Special appreciation was extended to Hon Akin Oyebode and other government officials within the local government for their support of the e registration exercise, which the team described as vital to maintaining momentum at a time when public political engagement appears to be waning.

Receiving the delegation, the Ikole Local Government Chairman, Hon Bayo Omojola, expressed firm support for the initiative and approved the printing of additional e registration data forms to address operational gaps. Chairmen of the Local Council Development Areas also pledged cooperation, signalling a unified local government approach aimed at ensuring wider reach and smoother execution of the registration process.

Members of the mobilisation team include Toba Fatunla, Kola Owoseni, Tope Ejire, and Kehinde Oseni also known as Olowoafara, alongside representatives of the various stakeholder groups involved. As the registration exercise continues, the initiative demonstrates a broader recognition within the party that rebuilding trust, participation, and visibility at the grassroots remains essential to sustaining political dominance and internal cohesion in Ikole Local Government and beyond.
