Unions of Transport Workers and Employees in Ekiti State have presented an award of outstanding performance and achievements in peace, harmony, and development to Governor Biodun Oyebanji.

The recognition was made during an interactive session held at the Fajuyi Pavilion in Ado Ekiti, where union members gathered to commend the governor’s leadership style and contributions to the state’s progress.

The three unions NURTW, RTEAN, and the Transporters’ Cooperative Society described the level of peace enjoyed among drivers in the state as unprecedented noting that the atmosphere of harmony has translated into broader peaceful coexistence across Ekiti.

The session turned into a carnival-like celebration, with members praising government achievements, particularly in road construction and the establishment of an advisory committee that has fostered unity among transport leaders.
NURTW Chairman, Mr. Omotayo Falope, who highlighted completed road projects such as Ikole–Ara–Isinbode, Ikere–Ilawe, Ikere–Igbaraodo, and Itapa–Omu–Ijelu roads, explained that the projects have eased transportation, reduced accidents, and improved security for travellers.

Similarly, RTEAN Chairman, Mr. Sunday Adeola, and Transporters’ Cooperative Society Chairman, Mr. Kehinde Afolabi, lauded the governor’s leadership, saying it has positively influenced their unions.

The unions, while expressing appreciation, also appealed to the governor to assist them with the purchase of vehicles for their members emphasizing that such support would further enhance their operations and strengthen the transport sector in the state.

Responding, Governor Oyebanji thanked the unions for their cooperation and peaceful conduct, which he said has allowed his administration to focus on governance without distractions. He acknowledged their collaboration with security agencies, particularly in intelligence sharing, which has helped curb crime and criminality in the state.

The governor assured the unions of their request, saying that more road projects have already been awarded for construction. He attributed the successes of his administration to support from the federal government and urged the unions to remain steadfast in their loyalty and commitment to both the state and federal authorities.
