An Immigration Attaché at the Nigerian Embassy in the Kingdom of Spain, Mr Ayotunde Adigun, has received two major awards from Nigerian community groups in Spain in recognition of his service and accessibility to citizens living abroad. The honours were presented in January and February 2026, barely one year after he assumed office.

The first award was conferred on January 16, 2026, by The Nigerian Union in Vitoria Gasteiz, Spain. The group described him as the Most Accessible Immigration Attaché in the history of the Nigerian Embassy in Spain, citing his open door policy and willingness to attend to the concerns of Nigerians without delay.
On February 17, 2026, the Federation of Nigerian Communities in Spain, the umbrella body representing Nigerian unions across the country, presented him with an Award of Excellence for Outstanding Service to Nigerian communities. The federation said the recognition was based on feedback from members across different regions of Spain who had experienced improved service delivery at the embassy.
Community leaders noted that many Nigerians in Spain had in the past complained about delays and difficulties in accessing immigration related services. They said Adigun’s approach since assuming office has helped restore confidence, particularly in areas such as passport processing, documentation and general consular support.
In a message shared after receiving the awards, Adigun expressed gratitude to the Nigerian community for the recognition. He said the honours were a sign that his vision to improve public service delivery to Nigerians in the diaspora was beginning to produce visible results.
He stated that his goal from the onset was to make the embassy more responsive and approachable. According to him, Nigerians living in Spain deserve timely and efficient immigration services, just like citizens at home, and he pledged to continue working towards that standard.
Adigun dedicated the awards to the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, and the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Kemi Nanna Nandap. He acknowledged their leadership and support, noting that reforms within the service have encouraged officers abroad to focus more on accountability and improved service delivery.
Members of the Nigerian community in Spain described the recognition as well deserved. They said the attaché has maintained regular communication with community leaders, attended meetings when invited and provided clear information on immigration procedures, helping to reduce confusion and frustration.
Observers believe the dual awards signal a positive shift in the relationship between the Nigerian Embassy in Spain and the diaspora community. For many Nigerians living in the country, the development represents renewed hope that public institutions can be both efficient and accessible when leadership is driven by commitment and a sense of responsibility.
