In a bid to slash residents’ medical expenses and boost community wellness, former lawmaker Bimbo Daramola—ex-representative for Oye/Ikole Federal Constituency—kicked off a monthly health and fitness initiative, dubbed “The BAOWalk,” on Saturday in Ikole-Ekiti.
The two-hour exercise, which drew a massive turnout of youths, supporters, and town residents, commenced at 7am from Olokonjo Junction near Ansa-ru-deen Grammar School and wound its way to the axis of Federal Medical Center, Ikole-Ekiti.

Speaking to journalists, Daramola said the walk was designed to complement the efforts of State Governor Biodun Oyebanji in enhancing both the physical and mental well-being of the people. “We are taking a stand against the spiraling cost of medical care and championing healthier lifestyles,” he asserted.
In a bid to further support the community, about 100 secondary school leavers who joined the exercise bagged free Joint Admission Matriculation Board (JAMB) forms—a welcome boost amid today’s economic challenges.
Daramola, visibly moved by the overwhelming support, hinted that the next monthly exercise is slated for Ijero Ekiti Local Government Area. “I’m indeed delighted. I’m delighted. I’m overwhelmed. I am happy,” he exclaimed. “Because you know that before we got to this point, there was a lot of drama. I said to God, our motives are pure. We believe in Governor Oyebanji and that is why we are supporting him. If I believe in something, I’ll put everything into it. And that’s what we have done. I want to appreciate every person that came from Ado, from everywhere.”
Participants and stakeholders lauded the initiative, urging all residents to embrace the programme, which also featured a brief health talk and refreshments.
Daramola’s BAOWalk, now a regular fixture in Ikole, promises to keep the town stepping toward a healthier, happier future.
