EKITI NSCDC CELEBRATES 2022 INTERNATIONAL PEACE DAY, CALLS ON STAKEHOLDERS TO ENSURE HARMONY FOR PROGRESS

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Ekiti State Command has celebrated the 2022 International Peace Day with a call on stakeholder in the society to ensure a collaborative efforts in ensuring peace and development of the state.

The theme, for this year’s World Peace Day is “End Racism, Build peace”. It was meant to stamp out racism, discrimination and ethnicism in the World, where everyone sees others as important human to live with.

The program in Ekiti had stakeholders from across different sectors in attendance including the Ogoga of Ikere -Ekiti, Oba Samuel Adu Alagbado, who was given the year 2022 Royal peace award.

The traditional Ruler who was represented by two of his High chiefs, thanked the State Command for aligning with the vision of the African Palace court in settling disputes without resulting into litigations.

Speaking at the occasion, the State Commandant Mr. John Fayemi commended  the Commandant General of NSCDC Ahmed Abukakar Audi, _PhD mni_ for his unflinching support to the Command, and challenged Desk Officers of the Peace and Conflict Resolution Unit to work hard to justify the on and off the job training the Corps gave them.

In his address, the Head of Unit, Peace and Conflict Resolution Assistant Commandant Oluwole Kolawole stated that the Unit has resolved over 450 cases since the beginning of the Year. ACC Oluwole also thanked the State Commandant for his support to the Unit and urged the invited Guests to tow the line of peace in all their relationship with people as peace is an ingredient for development needed by all.

The guest lecturer for the day, Mrs Adeleye Olamide Feyisayo, spoke extensively on the reasons for peace. She enumerated the cost of First and Second World War which she said the world cannot afford to bear again.

Mrs Adeleye who is a lawyer and a United Nations Peace Ambassador gave a passmark to the PCR unit by adjuding it as one of the best in Nigeria going by the statistics available to her .

Chief Nathaniel Amaechi and Alhaji Aremu Aromokeye were awarded at the occasion as peace ambassadors and for their roles in preaching peace and for their support to the Unit.

The occasion equally witnessed the attendance of the Executives of the two major Road Transport Unions. They are The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN).

The celebration provided an auspicious environment to emphasize the need for mutual and symbiotic existence between two bodies.

A statement by the CDPRO Tolu Afọlábí recealed that the event was preceded by a PEACE WALK Exercise through the State Headquarters office to Ikere Ekiti which was rounded up at the Motor Park in the Town.

The Exercise was to create an awareness as well as give sensitization on the public advocacy on Peace Building moves taken by the State Commandant of the NSCDC.
