Stakeholder in the Nigerian Health sector have advocated the need for Nigerian government to provide an enabling environment for medical practitioners in the country as a way to reducing brain -drain in the system.
A cross section of Medical experts and achievers in the field who gathered to brainstorm at the Public Lecture organised by the Ekiti State University Medical Students’ Association EKSUMSA as part of activities marking the 2022 Health week lamented the rate at which Doctors and Nurses prefer to work abroad because of the poor working condition in the Nigerian Public health system.
The Provost EKSU college of Medicine Prof Bamidele who spoke extensively on why the medical students needed to think outside the box charged them to take upon themselves the responsibility of salvaging the country from total collapse.
Also at the event were the State Commissioner for Health Dr. Oyebanji Filani who was represented by a Director in the Ministry, the Chief Medical Director Federal Teaching Hospital Ido Ekiti Prof. Kunle Àjàyí, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Public Health Dr. Jimlas Ogunsakin among others who called on medical practitioners to look beyond their noses in solving myriads of problems facing them on the job.
They charge the medical students to acquaint themselves with other skills capable of launching them to limelight while the maintain the respect attached to the reputations of the Noble profession.
The EKSUMSA President David Aduragbemi Àjàyí, Vice President, Makanjuola Oluwakemi and the General Secretary, Cornelius Oluseebi among other Executive members in separate chats commended the resource persons, describing the lecture as a eye-opener.
They lauded the cooperation of all the members of the Association (EKSUMSA) which they said contributed immensely to the progress achieved in their tenure.
