FIDA VISIT EKITI CHIEF JUDGE, PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR JUDICIARY

 

International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Ekiti State chapter today paid courtesy visit to Ekiti State Chief Judge, Hon. Justice John Adeyeye in his office.

Addressing the Chief Judge, Ekiti FIDA Chairperson, Mrs Oyinade Olatunbosun expressed her happiness for the warm reception given them by the Chief Judge, ‘’We are highly elated your Lordship, for formally receiving us in your esteemed presence, despite your busy schedule’’.

She congratulated the Chief Judge for his giant strides aimed at shooting Ekiti State Judiciary into lime light especially the remote court hearing recently put to test affirms his readiness to take Ekiti Judiciary to the next level.

Mrs. Oyinade said, this type of visit became necessary to introduce the current executives of the organization who assumed office in December, 2021 to the Chief Judge and to discuss with him some of the challenges facing them in Ekiti, such as, funds in paying filing fees in court, as all cases ranging from matrimonial issues, child abuse, rape, defilement, gender based violence issues among others were handled Pro Bono (Free of charge) in all courts up to Appeal Court level, problem of mobility to ease their movement, office accommodation issue among others, she urged the Chief Judge to look into Administration of Criminal Justice Law where FIDA has been short-changed in some sections of the amendment, she requested for establishment of a designated court to attend to gender based issues as stipulated by section 370 of the Gender Based Violence Prohibition Law.

Mrs. Oyinade however apologized to the Chief Judge on behalf of other members in any way they might have offended him in the past, either by omission or commission, she affirms FIDA’s commitment to the success of Ekiti State Judiciary.

In his response, Justice Adeyeye congratulated the new executives on their election, he prayed for their successful tenure in office, he pledged to work with FIDA and render judiciary’s assistance within its power to them, anytime the need arises.

Justice Adeyeye said, judiciary does not make laws but interprets, he promised to discuss with concern authorities on their other requests, make needed amendment and proffer solution where necessary, he concluded.

Others present at the occasion include the Chief Registrar, Adesoji Adegboye Esq., Magistrates, former chairperson of FIDA in Ekiti State, Mrs. Rita Ilevbare, FIDA executives and members among others.
