The Ekit State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Mr John Olatunde Fayemi has advised Officers and Men of the Command to be more patriotic in their operations during, before and after the upcoming 2023 General Elections for the nation to achieve a credible poll.
According to him, Nigerians must be allowed to choose leaders of their choices in an atmosphere that is devoid of security breaches; and also to assist Independent National Electoral Commission to conduct free, fair and credible Elections.
The Commandant who made this known during a one day Training program organized by Training Department of the Command with a view to cascading down the training programs and messages received at the NSCDC National Headquarters; as well from the INEC series of Lectures and attended by some of the Command’s officers in which Nigeria Police and other similar agencies were present.
The Commandant also stressed the need to be friendly with electorates in a manner that the Electoral Act 2020 would be respected without jeopardizing the protections of fundamental human rights of Nigerians.
The training programmes was attended by all the Area Commanders, sixteen Divisional Officers, Local Council Development Areas Officers as well as Heads of Departments and Units where Lectures on prevention of electoral violence, election security duties, social responsibility of officers to people with disabilities were discussed.
The Training program which took place at the Command’s headquarters along Ikere road welcomed Resources persons from various Departments with special interest in election day mobilization, Electoral Act 2020 and other election related matters.
Deputy Commandant Bisi Olugboyega from Intelligence Department explained the need for security officers to be on alert at all times during election, while the Command Desk Officer on PLWD, ASCI Adejuwon Yemisi spoke about the need to protect the right of People with Disabilities during elections as they need our support to be able to enjoy their rights and privileges in which voting and to be voted for are part of it.
According to a statement made available to the press by the CDPRO Tolu Afolabi, participants were encouraged by the Legal Officer, Mr Adebanjo Seun, of the Command to be conversant with Electoral Act 2020 to enable them work in line with the provision of the Act as well as the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria when he spoke on Law Enforcement Agents on election security duties, with a call to the electorate and politicians to play the game by the rules in order to have hitch-free elections, come 25 February and 11 March 2023.
