An Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti has granted an ex-parte application brought before it, to remand 30 year old Adewumi Ademiloye in the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Ado Ekiti for thirty days.
Requesting for the order, the Police prosecutor, Inspector Johnson Okunade said, granting the order will allow Police complete their investigation, while the duplicate case file of the matter will be forwarded to office of Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.
According to the charge, Adewumi Ademiloye was reasonably suspected to have commit offence of rape on 17 year old girl in Ado Ekiti, between March, 2019 to March, 2022, contrary to Section 23 (1) of Ekiti State Gender Based Violence laws, 2019.
Narrating her ordeal to the Police, the victim said, she started dating the defendant in 2019 when she was 17 years, after some time, he asked her to bring some of her clothe to his house and has been living with him since then.
Thereafter, he lured her to prostitution, drug, smoking and other illicit acts, when customers were no more patronizing her, the defendant began having sexual intercourse with her on daily basis until she became pregnant in year 2021 adding that, the defendant refused to register her for antenatal but instead, he will beat her and locked him up in a room on many occasion, he threatened to kill her if she dare tell anybody.
The victim said, she overheard the defendant and her mother who was arraigned alongside the defendant but later released on bail, on a phone conversation negotiating with somebody suspected to be ritualist, she was very afraid, when I can no more bear the situation, she called and narrated everything to her mother who has been searching for her since, 2019, she concluded.
In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Titilola Olaolorun said, the defendant is ordered to be remanded in the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Ado Ekiti for thirty days, pending completion of Police investigation and issuance of legal advice by the DPP.
The case has been adjourned till 25th April, 2022 for mention.
