Ikole Community Celebrates Upgrade of Hospital to Federal Medical Centre, Donates 20 Hectares of Land to Support Project

…Appreciates President Tinubu, Governor Oyebanji, Others for Facilitating Development Project

The streets of Ikole in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State came alive on Wednesday as residents poured out in jubilation to commemorate the recent elevation of the Ikole Special Hospital to a Federal Medical Centre.

Amidst a sea of celebrants, young and old, the atmosphere reverberated with chants of gratitude, with banners and placards bearing inscriptions such as “Thank You Mr. President,” “Health Care Transformation Approved,” and “Ikole FMC is a Reality,” adorning the procession.

Speaking on behalf of the community, the second-in-command to the Elekole and Olotinoba Ode of Ikole, High Chief Oluwasayo Okunola, along with the Asolo of Ikole, who doubles as the Chairman of Traditional Chiefs in Ekiti, Chief Olu Ogunsakin, expressed profound appreciation to President Tinubu and Governor Oyebanji for their instrumental roles in realizing this milestone.

Highlighting the significance of this upgrade, they emphasized its potential to enhance access to quality healthcare services and stimulate economic growth within the region.

However, amidst the celebration, the community leaders also raised concerns about the prevailing security challenges, particularly the surge in kidnapping incidents. They urged government intervention to address this issue and implored for the provision of additional social amenities.

In a remarkable show of solidarity, the community announced the donation of twenty hectares of land to facilitate the swift establishment of the medical center.

Contributing to the discourse, Oba Adebayo Awoseyila, the Alamo of Ilamo, Chief Bayo Omojola, Chairman of Ikole Local Government, and Mrs. Mosunmola Adeyemo, Chairperson of Ikole West LCDA, all explained that the Federal Medical Centre in Ikole heralds a new era of development for the community. They anticipated infrastructural growth and employment opportunities, particularly for the youth.

Furthermore, women within the community expressed relief at the prospect of no longer having to travel to Ado Ekiti or Ido for healthcare services, foreseeing a future where their healthcare needs will be met locally.
