The Special Assistant to the Governor of Ekiti State on Service Delivery, Office of Transformation and Service Delivery (OTSD), Toba Fatunla, has called on Christians to use the Lenten season for deep spiritual reflection and steadfast prayers for the progress of the state.
Fatunla, a former Speaker of the Ekiti Youth Parliament, described the Lenten season as a sacred period of sacrifice, self-discipline, and devotion. He emphasized that beyond personal reflection, it presents an opportunity to foster unity, promote kindness, and strengthen faith in God.
Speaking on the administration’s commitment to religious inclusivity, he assured Christians in the state of Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s unwavering dedication to their welfare. He noted that the governor remains committed to policies that enhance the well-being of all residents, regardless of their religious affiliations.
Fatunla praised the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Ekiti for its role in promoting peace and development. He acknowledged the association’s support for the government and urged its leadership to continue working towards the collective progress of the state.
Encouraging religious leaders to use the season to spread messages of peace, tolerance, and social cohesion, Fatunla stressed the importance of harmonious coexistence among people of different faiths. He maintained that unity remains a crucial factor in achieving sustainable development in the state.
The governor’s aide, an indigene of Ikole-Ekiti, also urged well-meaning individuals to extend love and generosity to the needy. He noted that acts of kindness and sacrifice, particularly during the Lenten season, contribute to building a more compassionate and supportive society.
While praying for divine blessings on all Christians observing the fast, he expressed confidence that their supplications would bring peace, prosperity, and divine favor to Ekiti State. He encouraged them to remain hopeful and to uphold the values of discipline and selflessness.
Fatunla reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to service delivery and transformation. He urged citizens to remain steadfast in their prayers and support for Governor Oyebanji’s administration as it continues working to improve the lives of all residents.
He further stated that the principles of the Lenten season—self-discipline, sacrifice, and faith—align with the values that the Oyebanji-led government promotes in governance and service delivery. He expressed optimism that the period would inspire renewed commitment to the growth and development of the state.
The Governor’s aide also called on young people in Ekiti to draw lessons from the Lenten season by embracing responsibility and contributing positively to the development of their communities. He urged them to prioritize values that enhance unity, discipline, and service to humanity.
He reiterated that the state government would continue to prioritize policies that cater to the needs of the people, adding that Governor Oyebanji’s administration remains focused on delivering effective governance for all.
As Christians across the state continue their observance of Lent, Fatunla expressed hope that the season would usher in greater peace, unity, and prosperity for Ekiti State and its people.
