New Year, New Resolution: Ekiti Environment Commissioner, Aluko Talks Tough To Staff of Waste Management Authority

The Ekiti State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Erelu Tosin Aluko-Ajisafe has charged the management of Ekiti State Waste Management Authority (EKSWAMA) to be proactive in the discharge of their duties.

Aluko gave the charge during a meeting with the management staff held in her office in Ado-Ekiti.

According  to her, the Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji has mandated the Ministry ,under her watch to ensure a clean, healthy and epidemic free environment, more than ever in the new year 2024.

She communicated a firm stance on the importance of being proactive and efficient in carrying out assigned duties.

Aluko emphasized the need for staff members to work diligently and maintain a high standard of performance, thereby urging that all members of staff are expected to be “up and doing” in their responsibilities.

The Commissioner stressed on the need for a collective effort to achieve optimal results in the Agency, noting that the approach is aimed at fostering a culture of excellence and ensuring that the goals of the Ministry of Environment are met efficiently.

The Environment Commissioner, however, called on residents of the state to dispose off their refuse appropriately to prevent the spread of germs and diseases in the environment.

“Residents of the state should shun every act of illegal disposal of refuse in drainages and canals, cultivate the habit of recycling, dispose of sewage properly to prevent outbreaks of infectious diseases” Aluko stated.

The Commissioner emphasized that the commitment of Mr Governor to the Ministry must not be jeopardized. She mentioned that the approval of the procurement of Dino bins and the Garbage Compactor Trucks to ease the waste evacuation cleaning job should be harnessed.

Responding,the Director-General EKSWAMA,Mr. Sunkanmi Onipede promised to synergize more efforts in the accomplishment of set goals of the Authority, assuring the Hon Commissioner that efforts geared towards putting some faulty trucks and other equipments in order were in top gear.

In the meeting were the Permanent Secretary of the ministry Mr. Babatunde Alokan, the Director General of EKSWAMA Mr Sunkanmi Onipede, Technical Adviser to the Governor on Green Economy and Ecological matters, Dr Akinyemi Akinyugha, the General Manager, EKSWAMA Engineer Ayoola Osalusi, and other top management officers.
