Olatunbosun, Daramola Rally Journalists’ Support for Oyebanji at NUJ Congress

The Ekiti State Commissioner for Information, Taiwo Olatunbosun, alongside former member of the National Assembly, Bimbo Daramola, on Tuesday called on media practitioners in the state to sustain their support for the administration of Governor Biodun Oyebanji as it consolidates on its development agenda.

Both leaders spoke separately at the February Congress of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ekiti State Council, presided over by its Chairman, Comrade Kayode Babatuyi, where they engaged members on governance, partnership, and the role of the media in deepening democratic values.

Olatunbosun acknowledged what he described as a long standing cordial relationship between the state government and the media, noting that Governor Oyebanji places high premium on constructive engagement with journalists as critical stakeholders in governance. He stressed that the administration recognizes the press not merely as observers but as partners in progress.

The Commissioner reiterated the governor’s commitment to the welfare and professional growth of journalists in the state, adding that such goodwill must be matched with responsible journalism rooted in accuracy, balance, and developmental focus. He urged media practitioners to continue to report government activities with fairness while holding leaders accountable within the bounds of professionalism.

In his remarks, Daramola described journalism as the eyes and ears of the people, emphasizing its enduring influence in shaping public opinion and guiding societal direction. He commended journalists in the state for their contributions to public discourse and democratic consolidation, noting that their work remains indispensable to sustainable development.

The former lawmaker pledged continued support for initiatives that would enhance journalists’ welfare and professional standards, while encouraging them to uphold integrity and fairness in the discharge of their duties. He also expressed support for Governor Oyebanji’s re election bid, pointing to strides recorded in health, education, infrastructure, and human capital development as justification for continuity.
