Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, on Thursday decorated two police officers attached to his personal security team following their recent promotion by the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force.
The officers, Cornelius James and Adegbemile Omowole, were elevated to the ranks of Superintendent of Police and Assistant Superintendent of Police respectively, in recognition of what authorities described as their diligence and outstanding commitment to duty.
The decoration ceremony, which took place in the presence of the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, was marked by commendations for the officers’ professionalism and loyalty in the discharge of their responsibilities.
Governor Oyebanji, while formally adorning the officers with their new insignia, praised their discipline and dedication, noting that their promotion was a reflection of hard work and integrity.
He described the advancement as well deserved and urged them to see their new ranks not merely as titles, but as higher responsibilities that demand greater commitment to service and ethical conduct.
The governor charged the officers to remain steadfast in upholding the core values of policing, emphasizing that public trust in law enforcement is built on professionalism, fairness and accountability.
In his remarks, the Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, said the promotion was approved by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, after a thorough assessment of the officers’ performance records.
According to the Commissioner, the Inspector General found the officers worthy of elevation following a critical review of their diligence, discipline and contribution to effective policing.
He congratulated the newly promoted officers and reminded them that the confidence reposed in them by the leadership of the force must be justified through continued excellence and unwavering adherence to professional standards.
CP Eribo further stressed that promotion within the force is earned through merit and consistent dedication, encouraging other officers to draw inspiration from the recognition accorded their colleagues.
In their separate responses, Superintendent of Police Cornelius James and Assistant Superintendent of Police Adegbemile Omowole expressed appreciation to the Inspector General of Police, the Commissioner of Police and Governor Oyebanji for the honour bestowed on them.
They pledged to redouble their efforts, uphold the ethics of the profession and contribute meaningfully to strengthening the image and operational effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force in the state and beyond.
