Averting Environmental Disaster: EKSG begins Full implementation of safety Standard for establishment of Gas stations

To ensure strict adherence to safety standards for the establishment of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) stations in Ekiti State, the Hon. State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Chief (Mrs.) Tosin Aluko Ajisafe, on Thursday convened a crucial meeting with a consultancy firm ROTYEM & SAMERCY NIG. LTD, alongside representatives of LPG Dealers and Marketers in the state.

The high-stakes meeting produced significant resolutions, which are set to revolutionize the safety within the LPG industry in Ekiti State.

According to a statement signed by the Commissioner and made available to Journalists in Ado Ekiti on Friday, one of the pivotal resolutions reached during the meeting was the commencement of the full implementation of safety standards for the establishment of LPG in the state, effective Monday, February 5th, 2024.

This decision stems from the recognition of the inflammable and explosive nature of liquefied petroleum gas, necessitating the urgency in enforcing regulatory standards.
Both the consultant, ROTYEM & SAMERCY NIG. LTD, and representatives of LPG Dealers and Marketers expressed unanimous agreement with the Ministry of Environment & Natural Resources in their commitment to commence the immediate implementation of safety regulations within the industry.

The collaborative efforts between the Ministry, the consultant, and the LPG industry leadership aim to fortify safety standards, preventing potential calamities that could pose threats to lives and properties in Ekiti State. The consensus underscores a shared determination to ensure the well-being of residents and mitigate the risks associated with the handling and distribution of LPG.

Also as part of the effort to boost the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the Ministry of Environment & Natural Resources, the Ekiti State Environmental Protection Agency (EKSEPA), and, by extension, the State Government, the Management of the Ministry is resolute in surpassing the approved revenue generation capacity of Ten Million as outlined in the 2024 Revenue Budget of EKSEPA, according to Chief Tosin Aluko.

The Hon. State Commissioner, Chief (Mrs.) Tosin Aluko Ajisafe, affirmed her commitment to prioritizing safety in the LPG industry while simultaneously maximizing revenue generation for the state.
