The Speaker of Ekiti State Youth Parliament who doubles as the Chairman, Conference of State Youth Parliament Speakers in Nigeria, Rt. Hon Toba Fatunla has urged government at all levels to prioritise the building of the Nigerian Youths rather than focusing all attentions only on physical infrastructures.
Fatunla in a release made available to pressmen in Ado Ekiti, urged handlers of government and those at vantage positions to help up the skills of the youth, create mentorship spaces for them, and enhance their capacities. He said these will greatly reduce the rate of insecurity among other illnesses ravaging the nation.
In his words, “we are reaping the fruits of our fathers yesteryears’ wrong investments. When you plant, it is sure you will reap and harvest. The actions and inactions of those in the yesteryears have created myriads of problems which are now bedevilling our society today. Banditry, Boko Haram, kidnapping, ritual killings and so on are what we are made to suffer.
The people in government today are fortunate. They still have the opportunity to do things rightly, correct the wrong and place the nation on a path of recovery. They should remember, no king will reign forever. If you are in power today, you will be out of power one day and return to the society from your high tower”
The Chairman Nigeria Conference of state Youth Parliament speakers emphasized exchange programs within and outside the country, skill acquisition program, mentorship, entrepreneurship and wealth creation programs as the crucial ways to saving the youths from desperacy and crime commission.
He called on the privileged in the society to compliment the efforts of government by engaging the youths in their immediate localities as well as religious organizations.
Fatunla added that “We can at our various corners start solving societal problems, but if we cannot do all these, more prisons should be built to accommodate criminals that the society will breed.
